Imagination

A most powerful tool

For transformation

Walt Disney once quoted, “If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started by a mouse.”

Who of us hasn’t been captivated at least one time by the magic of Disney? The parks bring us child-like wonder, while the movies inspire us to open our hearts and minds to something bigger. The gift that Walt gave us, is something that will forever be timeless. In fact, we should all remember that we, too, have the same ingenuity inside of us. It’s really just a matter of tapping into it.

As kids, we were filled with imagination. In fact, it’s how we spent many of our moments in our early years. We were captivated by both what our senses were distilling, as well as what only we could possibly see or fantasize in our own minds. Getting back to that state is such a blessing in disguise. For some, we achieve that elevated form of thinking and seeing when we’re in the midst of doing something we love — gardening, art, exercise, reading, cooking, etc. Giving ourselves these moments of exploration is important if we don’t want to become stale and stagnant.

Walt also went on to share the following, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” How often are we challenging ourselves to open new doors to life? If we find that we’re staying in the same room, perhaps we need to figure out how to strike the match of curiosity within ourselves. Keeping ourselves in a state of constant learning and exploration helps maintain our youth and vigor. And, as humans, we are naturally curious. Heck, one could even say the likes of Instagram, Facebook and TikTok are the newest breeders of curiosity. We find ourselves constantly scrolling the feed, wanting to see what’s happening with others. And while this can feed one side of our voyeuristic selves, it’s missing the one side that’s most important — our internal search. For if all we do is keep an eye on others, all we’ll be left with is an empty self that somehow managed to slip by without us even realizing this was the case.

Perhaps it’s time as we make our midway point in the year, to reexamine our ability to open new doors, and to learn and grow in ways we didn’t quite know existed. For as the imagineer himself, Walt Disney, also stated, “Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, dreams are forever.”

Thank you, Mickey.
