The Lightness of Being

To be accepting

Is to choose the proper path

Trust leads me forward

Our acceptance of self and others is a journey we are all asked to take. There are, of course, varying degrees to this state. The first step in achieving our desired outcome, is to be at peace with ourselves. We must truly be comfortable in our own skin before we can ever have the same sentiment for others.

This state of being begins to manifest itself at a young age. As children, we are open to the magic and wonder of others. We were more than happy to welcome new people into our circle. In fact, we were mesmerized by the differences — not necessarily the similarities — of society. It’s as though the world around us was one giant piece of impressionistic art. It was available and on display at all times.

As we matured, we began to close our eyes a bit to the unfamiliar. We potentially started being conditioned to situations that may not have exposed us to the breadth that life has to offer. So how does one regain the fascination of youth? Perhaps the best way is to fully embrace all of the flaws, the insecurities and the doubts that harbor within. Much like when we were kids, we must relish in the opportunity to not take ourselves so seriously. After all, it’s been stated that the angels think we’re far too absorbed and muddled in the day to day. They encourage us to have fun, to live lightly and to surrender to the moment.

And when we do this, we find that we can quite often discern the truth from the story. For the story is often times full of fabrications and insecurities. If we spend too much time absorbing its content, we can become stuck and unclear. For it’s when we begin to feel the weightlessness, that we begin to embrace the lightness of being. And when we’re constantly in this state, we are open for the ride and relationships of a lifetime.
