Go Into the Light

The priestess of light

Is the one powerful force

That guides you forward

In the famed 1982 movie, “Poltergeist”, Carol Anne is repeatedly and urgently asked to not go into the light. For if she were to go into the light, she would encounter a presence that would strip her of her existence. Following the movie, many of us would jokingly use the phrase, “Carol Anne, don’t go into the light!!”, perhaps not truly understanding the significance of this statement.

Fast forward almost forty years later, and there are still many of us who are afraid to go into the light. Why? Because sometimes it’s a blinding force through which we cannot see or make out the landscape. Individuals who are in their last days speak of seeing a light in the distance, yet aren’t always ready to explore its habitat. However, there comes a moment when the force of the light is too strong and too comforting, and one is actually drawn to its welcoming.

Thus, we all have an internal light that is constantly shining. Some days it can be a bit of a flicker, and on others, it has a luminous appeal. So much so, that we feel brave, certain and confident to take on whatever is on our path. How then do we access this light and find ways to repeatedly turn it to its highest volume? The more obvious answer to this question is giving ourselves the space and time to consistently recognize it. And once it’s discovered, it can then be stretched and pulled in a way that it surrounds our very essence, making us a pillar for what is possible.

Perhaps we need to think of it as a shield. It’s a shield that can defend and protect us from some of life’s more challenging and difficult moments. And even greater than this, it can be a shield that not only strengthens us, but can have the capability to reflect that light on others so they, too, can experience and harness the magic of that ever-existent life force that is just a stone’s throw away from within.
