Cracking Open to Growth
How we break open
During the most troubled times
Is where we find growth
There are moments in our existence when we are tested and stretched to limits we never knew existed. These particular points in time are generated to crack us open, experience extreme vulnerability and ultimately grow. In some cases, we experience these moments when we’re faced with uncertainty. The lesson for us to learn, however, is that uncertainty is the only thing that really exists. And our ability to both make friends with it and embrace it, is the ultimate challenge.
Deepak Chopra shares the following — The search for certainty is an illusion. Uncertainty, on the other hand, is the fertile ground of pure creativity and freedom. Uncertainty means stepping into the unknown in every moment of our existence. The unknown is the field of all possibilities, ever fresh, ever new, always open to the creation of new manifestations. Without uncertainty and the unknown, life is just the stale repetition of outworn memories. You become the victim of the past, and your tormentor today is your self left over from yesterday. Relinquish your attachment to the known, step into the unknown, and you will step into the field of all possibilities.
Of course, this is easier said than done. Given we have a need for control, allowing ourselves to release the reigns and be open to what is currently unknown or unfamiliar can be viewed as a dangerous assignment. How then, do we have a mindset shift around this concept? Perhaps a recollection of our childhood years might help. As we remember the scrapes, bumps and falls of our very early stages, along with the very awkward adolescent years where we were not in control of the changes occurring in our bodies and the sometimes emotional havoc they created, we might realize how important those eras were in shaping who we ultimately grew into. So, why should that form of growth stall?
Creating moments that break us open, allow us to see a new facet of ourselves.
In the words of Oprah — There is not one experience, no matter how devastating, no matter how torturous it may appear to have been, there is nothing that’s ever wasted. Everything that is happening to you is being drawn into your life as a means to help you evolve into who you were really meant to be here on Earth. It’s not the thing that matters, it’s what that thing opens within you.
